Chapter twenty one

He and Mac were back aboard the KS Zavrinn and happily on their way to Kenistal. As much as he loved catching up with Hunter and his teammates, he was missing his demon prince. Mac spent half his time teasing him relentlessly and he was determined to have his revenge. Somehow, someway. He would even enlist Mac’s wife to help if it came to it.

He wasn’t sleeping at all. He was beyond tired and seemed to be existing purely on javrin, more thankful then ever it was one of the easiest things that could be reproduced on most planets.

He was playing a lively game of Freklika with Mac and a couple of his guards in the state room. It was a strategy game that, while it originated on Kenistal, was becoming increasingly popular throughout the Alliance. It was Dasa’s favorite game and Caris was determined to get better at it so he could play with him. Warrior Caradeicus was trying valiantly to teach him one of the more complicated strategies. It probably would have worked if the two of them hadn’t been drinking. Not that they were drunk. Neither of them were irresponsible enough to drink, given their current situation. They were currently laughing at his attempts to regain control of the board— he was losing, and fast.

Suddenly, the ship’s alarm started blaring and a cry of battle stations rang through the speakers. The warriors scrambled for their weapons as Mac slammed onto the comms button.

“Report,” he barked through the link.

“We’re under attack, Sir. I can’t see the markings.”

“Frek. All hands, battle stations, report to your posts and secure the ship. I’m on my way to the bridge.” Mac shut the link down, ordered his warriors to stay with Caris, and nodded briefly to Caris before they all sprinted as one to the bridge.
